Anarchism – The Revolutionary Movement of the 21st Century

A Lecture by Uri Gordon

Thursday 30.04
20:00

Anarchist politics are at the heart of today’s most vibrant and radical social movements. From squatted social centers and community gardens to acts of sabotage and raucous summit blockades, anarchist groups and networks are spreading an ethos of direct action, non-hierarchical organizing and self-liberation that has redefined revolutionary struggle for the 21st century.

The activist and author Uri Gordon will present his new book “Anarchy Alive! – Anti-authoritarian Politics from Practice to Theory”. The talk will focus on the importance of direct action and the construction of communitarian economies in view of the global financial and ecological crises.

Uri Gordon – Born in Haifa, formerly IDF Radio reporter in the West Bank. Holds a PhD in politics from Oxford University and lectures on environmental politics and ethics at the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies.

This performance is about poetic license.”

Director: Tova Kortzcyn

Ezra Peri, Ora Kedem, Leo Luster and Martin Vogel return to 5 Marc Aurel st. in Vienna, where a day center, in which they were able to find some temporary refuge in the dark days of the Nazi era, was located. This center for Jewish children was established and directed by Aron Menczer, a 21 years old active member of the Gordonia youth movement and a central figure in the Youth Aliyah Organization in Vienna. He stayed in Vienna while other youth movements leaders left, following the Kristalnacht.

Aaron Menczer succeeded in saving the lives of many Jewish children. Not his own. He was sent to Theresienstadt and later on with a group of over 1000 Polish children to Auschwitz, where they all perished.
