Embroidery Behind the Wall
Selling of embroidery products of women’s cooperatives from Azariye and South Hebron Hills
Bags, purses, cushions and more…
Dear friends,
You are invited to a fair trade bazar of high quality products, hand-made by BaJeS Women’s Cooperative in Aizariye, and of the Women’s cooperative in South Hebron hills. Azariye is an East Jerusalem suburb cut off behind the Separation Wall. The residents of the village are isolated from sources of income, health services and education institutes. The people of South Hebron hills (the cave dwellers) live in difficult conditions, suffer from frequent Settlers’ harassments, land loss and a permanent danger of expulsion. These projects are means to create an income and empowerment, but they are at the same time offering us a glimpse behind the 9 meter concrete wall into the creative lives of the women in Palestine.

Meeting with the artist Tzachi Buchbut and screening of the film Wassup Rockers by Larry Clark.
Wassup Rockers is about a group of Salvadoran and Guatemalan teenagers in South Central Los Angeles who, instead of conforming to the hip hop culture of their gang infested neighborhood, wear tight pants, listen to punk rock, and ride skateboards. Avoiding the violence of their dangerous home turf is an everyday challenge.
The Rockers decide to travel by bus to skate the world famous “Nine Stairs” at Beverly Hills High School. There they meet some local girls, attracted to the “punks” from the ghetto, but the day quickly goes bad as they’re hassled by rich boys from the neighborhood and rousted by the Beverly Hills Police. Trying to escape arrest by the cops and fights with the local kids, the Rockers run from house to house and yard to yard in this wealthy and foreign world, looking for a way to get home.

Tzachi Buchbut
Avalanche
The exhibition opening is part of “LIFT OFF” (download programme), the galleries season opening in Jerusalem
Artist Tzachi Buchbut will show in Barbur his second solo exhibition, “Avalanche”. He will show sculptures and wall works that deal in the relations between the visual languages of the painting world and contemporary music and representations of power and intimidation mechanisms.
Additionally, Buchbut says that the exhibition is going to create a sensation of “stealing”, and according to his words the works “take” something from the viewer and don’t give back.
