Exhibition Opening of Prints by Shimon Tzabar and a Commemoration Event for the Artist

On monday, 19.3.2007, at the age of 81, in London, passed away a man by the name of Shimon Tzabar. Tzabar - writer, illustrator, and publicist - began his political path with ‘Beitar’ and winded up on the Far Left, hostile even to the likes of ‘Gush Shalom’. Emigrating from Israel in the 1960’s in protest of the occupation of the Territories, Tzabar spent the remainder of his life in the diaspora, dedicated to the rebuking of the State of Israel. Tzabar was an extremist, but also a brilliant and multi-talented man. We will spend the evening examining his life story - ‘Palmach’ fighter, writer and illustrator of children’s books, poet, mycologist, and man of morals, who became a bitter enemy of Israel and Zionism. We will discuss his life and work, as well as recollections of those who knew him personally: journalist Haim Hanegbi, painter Dan Keidar, art critic Gideon Offrat, journalist Amnon Bierman, and ‘Matzpen’ activist Akiva Orr.

The event will launch an exhibit of prints by Shimon Tzabar, on display for a single week.
