Embroidery behind the Wall

Friday 28.12
11:00 – 15:00

Selling of embroidery products of women’s cooperatives from Azariye and South Hebron Hills

Bags, purses, cushions and more…

Dear friends

You are invited to a fair trade bazaar of high quality products, hand-made by BaJeS Women’s Cooperative in Azariye, and by the Women’s cooperative in South Hebron hills.

Azariye is an East Jerusalem suburb cut off behind the Separation Wall. The residents of the village are isolated from sources of income, health services and education institutes.

The people of South Hebron hills (the cave dwellers) live in difficult conditions, suffer from frequent settlers’ harassments, land loss and a permanent danger of expulsion.

These projects are means to create an income and empowerment, but they are at the same time offering us a glimpse behind the 9 meter concrete wall into the creative lives of the women in Palestine.

BLADERUNNER

During work on the exhibition “Polygraph” we talked about lie detectors a great deal. A very interesting version of such a machine can be found in the movie “Blade Runner” - The “Voight-Kampff” machine which is capable, by reading physiological responses to a series of questions, to tell not whether a person is lying but whether he is an original human being or a replicant, a human-like robot.
Come and watch Ridley Scott’s 1982 masterpiece with us.

Screening in Barbur - To See if I’m Smiling

Thursday 6.12 at 20:30

To See if I’m Smiling

a film by Tamar Yarom

A personal account of female soldiers about their life in the Israeli Army, in the occupied territories. Questions that were not dealt with during the service are raised today with great pain - and courage. A female point of view on the drama of an unending war, on the moral challenges the soldiers faced at the encounter with the Palestinian population. The young women look back critically at the way they handled the power that was placed in their hands at the young age of eighteen. In 1988 the filmmaker served herself in the Israeli Defence Force in the Occupied Territories..
