The Street of Two Birds

by Sudsiri Pui Ock

Curator: Nirith Nelson

Sudsiri Pui-Ock lives and works in Chiang Mai, Thailand and came to
Israel as the guest of the Jerusalem Center for the Visual Arts
(JCVA)
. She received her BFA and MFA in Print Making and Graphic Arts
in Thailand, but during her studies at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam
she decided to concentrate on performance, installation and video art.
She has chosen three video pieces for this exhibition; towards the end
of this show she will add a fourth work, shaped during her JCVA
residency.

Pui-Ock’s lyrical works are sometimes spiked with humor. They renew
our fundamental wonder for the rhythmic immensity of the natural
environment, while offering generally gentle reminders of the other,
mechanistic environment that we are more commonly exposed to. Sound,
which is used both to contradict and enhance the performance and
imagery, is an integral element of these pieces.
